Obituary for Valda Brown

Valda May Brown was born on December 28, 1924 to George Brown and Anita Campbell. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 19th, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital. Valda was the third of six children (George, Eugenia, Leonard, Margarita, and David). In 1943, she migrated from Brown’s Town, St. Ann to Kingston, Jamaica, and worked as an Assistant to the Dean at Shortwood College. While in Kingston, Valda had seven children: Elsie Brown, Beverly Pryce, Efferey Prendergast, Patricia Simms, Wayne Prendergast, Natalie Seidman, and Peter Prendergast (deceased). Valda migrated to the United States in November of 1980, to join her sister, Eugenia Dickens and brother-in-law, Bishop Joseph Dickens. Once in Connecticut, she worked as Companion and Homemaker. Shortly after, she began working at Bridgeport Hospital as a Housekeeper. After ten years of working at Bridgeport Hospital, Valda finally retired to spend time with her family. Valda will be remembered as a kind and loving Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, and friend, who always had a smile and felt passionately about everyone she came in contact with. She had a quiet strength and was always graceful until God called her home. She is survived by 5 children, 32 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, 2 nieces and a nephew.
