Obituary for Cynthia J Morton

Cynthia J. Morton, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 19, 2018, at the Watermark 3030 Park Ave., Bridgeport, CT. She was the devoted wife of the late James L. Morton. Cynthia was born in Jetersville, Virginia on July 2, 1922, the daughter of the late Nathaniel Jones and Lillian Patterson.

She graduated from Virginia State College in Petersburg, Virginia earning a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and later obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of Bridgeport.

She was a Home Economics teacher for Bridgeport Public Schools working at Whittier and Blackham Schools over the course of a 32 year career and supported students as an emeritus member of Les Treize, Inc.

Cynthia was a child of God and was an active, lifelong member of Walters Memorial AME Zion church.

She loved spending time either talking with friends and family in her kitchen or tending to her treasured vegetable garden. Cynthia inspired so many with her kindness, understanding, and love of life.

She was predeceased by her brother Churley Jones and aunt Grace Kenney. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Ruth Perkins (Robert Golding), so, William Morton and his wife Kimberlee, four grandchildren, Jose Rios, Richard Perkins, Lindsay and Alanna Morton, four great-grandchildren, Jose Miguel and Joslin Rios and Josette and Joseph Perkins, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
