Obituary for Deacon Woodrow Taylor

Deacon Woodrow Taylor Sr. son of the late Ausil Dingle and Minnie Taylor Dingle was born May 5, 1925 in Alcolu, SC. He departed this life on Wednesday Sept. 12, 2018, in Saint Vincent’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Deacon Taylor accepted Christ at an early age and joined his family church at Westminister Presbyterian Church in Alcolu, SC. Upon relocating to Bridgeport CT, he joined East End Baptist Tabernacle Church, under the leadership of Rev. James D. Peters. After many years at East End, he moved his membership to Saint Luke Free Will Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board and then was later ordained as a Deacon. He served many years as a faithful Deacon.

Deacon Taylor was joined in holy matrimony to Rebecca Samuel of Manning SC.
On September 30, 1951. To this union was born seven children. He later migrated to Norwalk, CT. where he was employed with Armstrong Rubber. Years later he planted his roots in Bridgeport, CT. He was employed with Hi-Ho D’Addario Construction Company, and later retired with Lewis Boswell Construction; where he was a member of Connecticut Laborer’s union Local 146.
 
Deacon Taylor was a member of Universal Masonic Order Lodge #1 of Norwalk CT.
 
Deacon Taylor was the epitome of a hard worker with a true entrepreneurial spirit owning several small businesses, which included a: tree cutting service, window washing service, landscaping business, and cement finisher service. He was no stranger to hard work and did not mind getting his hands dirty. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and mentoring others in his family as well as in his community. He was the definition of a family man and passed these traits and knowledge down to his children and grandchildren. Deacon Taylor was a great provider for his family.
 
Deacon Taylor enjoyed fishing, traveling, and most of all spending time and exchanging stories with his family and friends.
 
Deacon Taylor is predeceased by his daughter Jeanette Taylor, his parents, his sister Corinne Dingle, and Daughter-in-Law Gerri Thompson Taylor.
 
Deacon Taylor leaves to cherish his loving and devoted wife of 67 years Rebecca E. Taylor; Five sons: Woodrow Taylor, Jr. of Lawrenceville GA; Robert M. (Carol) Taylor, Deacon Lorenzo L. (Johanna) Taylor and Lawrence Taylor all of Bridgeport, CT.; Minister Whitney (Sandra) Taylor, of Lithonia GA.; Two daughters: Minister Rebecca E. (Darrel) Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA, Special Daughter, Sheresha Rainey of Bridgeport, CT. He also leaves to cherish, 14 Grandchildren, 29 Great-Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren, Twins: Carter and Winter Mighty of Bridgeport, CT. One sister, Corina Fountain of Kennesaw GA; One-sister-in-law Rose J. Samuel of Trumbull, CT; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
