Obituary for Louise Cunningham

Louise Moragne Cunningham, age 102, entered into eternal rest on August 13, 2018 at home surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Cunningham, and twelve siblings.

Born in Bordeaux, South Carolina Louise was the 11th of 13 children of the late William and Mary Moragne. After the untimely death of Louise’s father, Louise, her mother and three sisters moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where Louise attended elementary school. After the early death of her mother, Louise moved to Evanston, Illinois and Baltimore, MD where she lived with her older siblings. She graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in Baltimore where she was the classmate of the late entertainer, Cab Calloway.

In 1939, Louise moved to Bridgeport, CT to live with her older brother Foster and his family. Foster introduced her to the love of her life, Charles Cunningham. They were married on February 25, 1940 and from their marriage, their daughter Valerie was born.

Louise retired from the Bridgeport Brass Company, where she was one of the first women assemblers in the East Main Street plant and in her last years worked in their Housatonic Avenue cafeteria. After retiring from the Bridgeport Brass Company, Louise worked part time in the cafeteria at the Cheeseborough Ponds Company, now Unilever, Trumbull, CT.

In the early 1940’s Louise joined the newly forming church, Mount Aery Baptist Church. There, she received the Lord and was baptized by the late Reverend Wilson, the founding Pastor. Louise became a true servant of the Lord serving in the Missionary Society, the Pastor’s Aid Society and the Deaconess Board since 1976.

Louise loved life, people, cooking and serving the Lord. Her kindness and caring nature were evidenced by all she came in contact with and she will be truly missed by so many.
She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Gilford Linevitch, her son-in-law Tom, three grandchildren, 11 great grand-children, four great great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
