Obituary for Myrtle Ferguson-Walcott

So her mom called her Myrtle, her dad called her Queen, her children called her mother or seamark, her grandchildren called her grandma, her great grandchildren called her GG. She is legally Ms. Myrtle Ferguson-Walcott. Her Legal birthday was June 01, 1930. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ferguson in the District of Joe Hut Trelawny Jamaica W.I.

She attends and graduated from Freemans Hall Primary School. Although her education stopped at a primary school level, it never stopped her from assuming the role of a secretary to her parents and some of the older ones in her District. Not only opening their letters but also reading and replying to their children abroad, and at times she was asked to take the money from the letters and go shopping for their groceries.

Myrtle was a very intelligent and industrious lady who always sought new challenges and aspired to achieve the best results in all that she was able to undertake. She was the first woman to leave her District to come to America. As a God fearing person she was able to provide comfort and advice to everyone with whom she came in contact. She gave freely to anyone in need. In fact, she would share the last slice of bread to ensure that everyone had something to eat.

Mother had an unbridled love for all her children, but especially her grand children and great-grandchildren who, whenever they were around brought an unsuppressed smile and glow to her entire being.

However, the most important aspect to her life was her unwavering love of God. This was proven throughout her life, but particularly so during her recent illness. Her belief sustained her and her indomitable spirit kept her fighting. She was a true believer in her worshipping of God which was evident in her many notes found in her copy of the Bible. We often heard her say these words: - “praise to God, he’s my Rock, he’s my fortress, he’s my deliverer, in him will I trust, I will trust in him till I die.”

On Saturday February 17, 2018 she surrendered to death brought about by the sin of our forefather Adam in line with Romans 5:12.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, one sister Maud, her daughter Dovelyn and grandson Jermaine.

Myrtle was mother and grandmother not only to those by birth, but to so many others. Such as: Daphne, Lester, Veronica and her granddaughter Dionne. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Alfred (Loxley), Muncia (Maureen), Pauline, Pamela and her husband Anthony (Joe), Joseph(Junior), Barbara(Liz), Conrad(Jackie), Harold (Benji) and his wife Jackie, 31 grandchildren, 66 Great grandchildren, 8 Great-great grandchildren, three sisters: Leonora Virtue, Ester Lewis and Zereta Roberts, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. Mother is now asleep awaiting a resurrection when she will never have to pay the price of inherited sin. (John 5:28, 29)

Special thank you to Kingsway Senior Housing and her devoted neighbor Ms. Marjorie Atkinson.
