Obituary for Ophelia J Cameron

Ophelia June Brown Cameron entered peacefully into eternal rest on August 20, 2017. Ophelia was born June 29th, 1936 to Luther and Ella Mae McGill Brown. Ophelia’s paternal grandparents were George and Ida Brown, and maternal grandparents were Phillip and Druzilla (Honey) McGill. Ophelia was the six of fourteen children.
Ophelia’s parents raised her in the church environment. At the age of eleven, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and attended the St. James Baptist Church in Johnsonville, SC. Ophelia attended Sunday school and Church conventions with her uncle Sampson and her aunt Idella-Eve McGill. Ophelia read poems and reported her convention experiences to her Church.
Ophelia received her education at Vox, Bethel elementary school and Lake City Carver High School of Lake City South Carolina. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 defines Ophelia Cameron the best. Ophelia was patient, she was kind, she never bragged about the works she did for others, with Ophelia you always had a clean slate, she was a judgment free zone, and she only saw the you that you were meant to be not your past. Ophelia desired for everyone to know the Lord and would drop everything to pray for whoever needed it at that moment. Ophelia was everything LOVE is.
In 1949, Ophelia met the love of her life, and childhood sweet heart Peter Guy Cameron. Peter drove his father’s school bus for Lake City Carver High School. In 1953, Peter was called to the Armed Forces of the United States of America, where he served two years and was honorably discharged in 1956. They often wrote letters to each other. They graduated from Lake City Carver High School, and united in Holy Matrimony. They moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut. From their union five children were born.
Ophelia truly loved the Lord. She would teach her children, grandchildren and the children in the neighborhood biblical scriptures and principles. Over the years, she served as a Deaconess, Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary, and sang on the choir, along with participating as a member in the Esther Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, of New York City. In her latter-years she joined Cornerstone Christian Center, Milford, CT under the leadership of Pastor Alfred D Watts. She was very excited about taking the foundation classes, listening to the preached word by Pastor Watts, and fellowshipping with the congregation.
Ophelia received her Certificate of Nursing from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing. She also received a Certificate of Nursing Education Services for Realty Orientation Geriatric Nurse Aide from the Jewish Home for the Elderly of Fairfield County. Ophelia was employed by Harvey Hubbell, the Jewish Home, St Vincent’s Medical Center and several convalescent homes and worked private duty services. After retiring, Ophelia continued to work private duty cases.
Ophelia enjoyed traveling, relaxing, and listening to gospel music. She participated in many cruises such as Bahamas, Nassau, St. Thomas, Virgin Island, Florida and various other destinations. She also traveled to Israel, Jerusalem and Greece.
Ophelia enjoyed having fun with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and eating good food.
Ophelia is survived by a host of loving family members including children; Peter D Cameron, (Ellaree), Fort Worth TX, Belinda Woolfolk, (*d David) Bridgeport, CT, Gregory L Cameron, New Haven, Connecticut, Elena Cameron-Sheffield, (Charles) Bridgeport, CT and (*d Jeffrey T Cameron).
