Obituary for Cora W. McIntosh-Belcher

Cora Beatrice Wade McIntosh-Belcher checked into time on October 29, 1952 and checked into eternity on October 1, 2018, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Ferrum, Virginia to the late Charlie R.L. Wade and Eva Cora Hancock. She was the fourth of eight living siblings. She relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut with her family at the age of eight years old, after her father secured a job at Sikorsky Aircraft.

Cora contracted polio at the age of five; that physical disability did not hinder her outlook on life and she lived a full active life. She was a well mannered pleasant child who only required discipline once as a child. She had and extremely strong giving spirit and concern for others, we often referred to her as “Little Mama”. She would call to remind us of things we should do or not to forget or who we could help out.

She attended Bridgeport public schools, Longfellow, Black Rock and Bassick High School, graduating in 1970. She also obtained an Associate’s degree in business at Housatonic Community College. She was an office worker at Bridgeport Textron until it closed. She went on to work at Bob’s Auto Shop as the Office Manager, using her organizational skills to assist her elder brother, Robert, in running his business. She worked there until her retirement in 2016.

She was married in 1988 to Winston McIntosh, who preceded her in death. On March 2016, she married Alfred Belcher, who she leaves to cherish her memory, who often referred to her lovingly as my baby Bea. Cora also leaves her mother, Eva who she was caring for along with her husband. Her siblings, whose lives she has positively impacted in many ways; Robert (Chinetta) of Bridgeport, CT; Ray Wade of Waterbury, CT; Joseph Wade of Bridgeport, CT; Barbara (Elbert) Powell of Oxford, CT; Jeanette (Otis) Wyatt of Pacifica, California, Margaret (Willard) Rose of Bridgeport, CT; Lisa (Reggie) Mills of Liberty Township, Ohio and her goddaughter, Kiara Wade of New York, NY. She leaves several nieces and nephews. The older nieces and nephews fondly called her Aunt Bea and Ja’net called her MC Buzz Buzz; one of their greatest achievements in their growing up was surpassing Cora in height, as she cared for many of them when they were growing up. She undoubtedly was the favorite Aunt of all her nieces and nephews. She also leaves aunts, uncles and cousins to cherish her memory.

Cora received Christ in her life during a youth revival in April 1972 at the age of 19 years old, at her church Temple Emmanuel; where Cora went on to serve the Lord in many capacities, most notably as the beginner’s class Sunday school teacher, where she impacted many young people, producing many dramatic productions, creating her own costumes and scenes. In addition, in her local church she served as the treasurer/secretary of the ABYPU, secretary of the Women’s Council, Willing Workers, Usher and treasurer of the Missionary Department, she was a Senior Missionary. On the diocese level she served as secretary of the Women’s Council and Financial Secretary of the Missionary Department.

It is hard to believe our Little Bea is gone, we will never forget the impact she has made on all of our lives, she always kicked up every function to the next level; we never will forget that infectious laugh where she would have to grab a tissue as tears flowed and as she tilted to one side; we couldn’t help but smile or laugh with her; Cora you gave so very much, rest in peace.
