Obituary for Deacon Leslie R. Johnson, Jr.

Leslie Ray Johnson Jr., was born April 27, 1931 to the late Leslie R. Johnson Sr., and Hazel Tyler Johnson in Washington, DC. He entered eternal rest January 4, 2019.

Leslie was educated in Washington DC Public school system. After high school, he chose to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army in 1951, where he served in Germany. He received his honorable discharge in 1954 and then relocated to Bridgeport, CT where he met the girl of his dreams, Lillian Doris Bohannon. After 3 months of courtship, they were united in holy matrimony on February 27, 1954. They were blessed with 2 daughters, Renata Denise and Yvette Diane.

Leslie was a man who enjoyed life. He found fun and excitement when riding his Harley Davidson along side of his fellow member of the Free Riders Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed traveling and working around the yard at home. But his earthly love was his girls, Lillian, Renata, Yvette and Gabriella.

Leslie was employed for many years at AVCO Lycoming and later retired from General Electric Company. He was a man who just couldn’t stay at home, so he went to work for Steven’s Ford, where he worked as long as he was physically able.

Leslie lived a life amplifying faith in God, gentleness and humbleness. He was a good friend to many and mentor and role model to others. He was a man full of wisdom and was always available to those seeking advice and direction.

He joined East End Baptist Church in 1954 under the Pastoralship of Reverend George C. Wrainwright, who affectionately referred to him that, “little curly headed boy”. His late brother Bob, call him a “righteous man” . During his 65 years of membership at East End, he served on the Usher Board, Trustee Ministry, President of the Men’s choir and Deaconate Ministry. In 2015, he was awarded the title of Deacon Emeritus for his years of service.

Leslie leaves to hold and cherish wonderful loving memories, his wife Lillian, his 3 daughters, Minister Renata Harris(Michael) of Milford, CT; Yvette of Kissimmee, FL: and Gabriella Martin of Washington, DC; 1 brother Earl John of Ft. Washington, MD; 4 grandchildren, Jermaine Jackson, Asia Morrow-ChaCha (Adrien) Niles Morrow and Riyadh Shelton, 10 children that he loved, nurtured and cared for as his own, Chelsea, Nelson, Marissa, Rachel, Luis, Carlos, Stacy, Tracy, Larissa and Melissa, 4 great grands and a host of loving relatives. He is predeceased by his father Leslie R. Johnson Sr., mother, Hazel Powel, brother Robert Johnson, sister Delores Johnson and granddaughter Lashawn Lindsey (Perfume chick).
Rest in Peace.

You fought the good fight. You have received your crown.
