She Fought A Good Fight…

Cynthia Elaine Spears was born to the parents of Sylvia Kipping [Spears] Aldridge and Reginald Spears, April 2, 1957. She was the first born of her siblings. She was the ultimate “Big Sister”

Cynthia’s personality and character always drew people to her like a magnet. Even in Jefferson Elementary, she had many friends. In Roosevelt School on Park Avenue Bridgeport, to Junior High School at Eastside Middle School many friends and relationships were developed. During her high school years at Warren Harding High School, Cynthia met and established many meaningful and lasting relationships that bare witness of her loving, forgiving and generous heart.

In high school, she participated in several sports program, volley ball, softball and basketball. She enjoyed her softball team mates from the B.T. Express. She was an avid bowler and was very active and also the treasurer of the Full Gospel C.O.G.I.C. bowling league.

Upon graduating from high school Cynthia accepted a temp job at the United Illuminating Co. After a short period, she became a permanent employee. She would work at the “UI” until she retired in 2014. Thirty-one years of service. During her employment at she did not just have friends, but many of her co-workers became her family.

As Cynthia began to mature, she returned to the spiritual teachings that were taught to her as a child and youth by her mother and grandmother, Rita Tull Kipping. She began to pursue her own spiritual and personal relationship with God.

Cynthia was dedicated and committed to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She shared God’s love with many. One of her favorite scriptures, Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. She served God faithfully and passionately with a servant’s heart.

She served untiringly in Faith Gospel Assembly Ministries, Inc. under the leadership of Bishop Victor E. Kipping, Bishop Sarah Kipping; she also served by the side of her sister Pastor Brenda Barnes until her time of transition.

Cynthia’s greatest gift was the ministries of help.

If there was a need she was willing and made herself available to provide help. She served in the Missions Ministry, “The Ambassadors”, she served in Food Program Ministry, she was an ordained an Elder in the Lord’s church. In each area of ministry, she was faithful.

She married the love of her life, Kevin Bohannon on February 14, 2008. Their union was one that faced many challenges with the health and wellness issues Cynthia endured. But Kevin, would never leave her side. Throughout various hospitals stays, Kevin would never, ever leave her alone, he would spend nights with her in the hospital or make sure family members were there with her. Sometimes he was the doctor, other times, he was her nurse. His love for Cynthia was unfailing. He was not just her angel here on earth; he was a blessing to her entire family.
