Obituary for George Jackson

George Gillis Jackson was born to Willie Jackson and Cora Lee Rawls Gillis on August 28, 1943 in Waycross Georgia. George attended J. D. Dickerson High School. While in high school George played football and basketball. Shortly after graduating high school George relocated to Bridgeport Connecticut, where he would meet and marry Barbara Smith Jackson. George went on to become a business owner, starting, Jackson Cleaning Service. George had a successful business for forty years, for which, he had many prestigious clients. George was also employed at Raybestos and Mobil Chemical for several years. When George was not working, he was enjoying his hobby, fishing. George was an excellent fisherman. He was also a hunter, for which, he would enjoy hunting trips with his cousin and friends. George was a member of the North End Community Council and he enjoyed advocating for the residents of the North End of Bridgeport. He enjoyed participating in many community events. George was also a Mason for a short period of time. When at home, George enjoyed relaxing in his reclining chair, watching television and conversing with his family. He enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and watching sports with his grandsons. All who knew George knew he was a Giants fan. George enjoyed boxing as well. George also enjoyed his garden for many years. George was predeceased by each of his parents, his son Lorenzo Surrency Jackson and a sister Catherine Jackson Gillis. George leaves to cherish his memory his wife Barbara Jackson, daughter Tammy Jackson each of Bridgeport Connecticut. His daughter Raedell (Pam) Brown of Rincon Georgia, Richard (Ricky) Shepard and Linda Shepard Feshazion (Mike), Sisters Lolamae Mincey (Curly) and Christine Gillis each of Vidalia Georgia. George leaves 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and loving family members and friends. George was always willing to extend a helping hand to all. George’s kind heartiness will be missed by all.
