Obituary for Samuel J Loyd

Samuel Jay Loyd, known as Jay to his family or Sam to his friends, 57, entered into his eternal rest Sunday, November 4, 2018. Jay was born on February 27, 1961 to Bessie Lee Loyd and the late Sylvester Loyd, Sr.

He was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, CT where he attended Calvary Temple Christian Center. His high school education came from Trumbull High School in Trumbull, CT and the U.S. Navy, where he traveled extensively during his brief servitude.

Jay constantly visited the law library where he read and summarized laws and statutes in his own words. He was also a very creative and skilled artist from a very young age. That artistry was also seen in his ability to clean. He would clean a stove so thoroughly that not only would it shine but you wouldn’t be able to see any of the digits and markings on the dials when he was done!

Everyone who knew ‘Sam’ knew him by his strong need to be helpful whether to his family, the church or in the neighborhood. He was known for his quiet and gentle way until you interrupted his flow with instructions! He was always willing to help anyone and looked for nothing in return.

His greatest blessing is his daughter, Latasha. Although he did not have the relationship they both longed for, when you would mention her name or his grandchildren he would simply look to the sky and smile his brightest smile.

Through the challenges of his life, Jay was a loving soul who kept to himself and enjoyed walking and seeing what the city showed him everyday.

Samuel is predeceased by his father, Sylvester Loyd, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted mother, Bessie Lee Loyd, one daughter, Latasha Eaddy (Teonty), one grandson, Jokari (‘J’)Trueheart II and one granddaughter, Tia Eaddy. Brothers: Henry Loyd (Carita), Sylvester Loyd, Jr., David Loyd (Lynn); Sisters: Jenice Thompson (Bishop John), Jettiree Edmonds (Edward); Sisters-by-Love: Anna Wojtowitz (Stanley) and Debbye’ Dennis; One Paternal Aunt, Elease James; Maternal Aunt, Ruthell Williams; Maternal Uncles, Solomon Singleton (Bertha), Jesse Singleton (Debra); along with a host of loving nieces, great-nieces, nephews, a great-nephew, many cousins and friends.

Samuel Jay Loyd is missed and will forever be in our hearts.

To my One and Only Daughter LaTasha
From the moment you were born, I was so happy. I both dreamed and worried about your future, hoping that your life would be rich with joys and abundant with blessings. My one regret is not being the daddy you deserve. Know that I loved you babygirl and always wanted the best for you. (written by the family on behalf of Jay)
