Obituary for Valencia A Lopez

Valencia Anita Lopez was born Valencia Anita Pettway in Bridgeport Connecticut to the late Berry Pettway, Sr. and Clarice Pettway. She was the third child born of this union.
Although Valencia was the name she was given at birth, she was affectionately known as “Nancy”. Valencia attended Bridgeport Public Schools up until her family relocated to Detroit Michigan in 1971. It was in Detroit where the rest of her siblings would choose to settle down, but Valencia’s heart was always back home in Bridgeport. So after graduating from Detroit Northern High School, Valencia headed back east to attend Boston College, afterwards she would eventually move back to Bridgeport permanently, but she would visit her family back home in Detroit as often as she could. Once she returned back home to Connecticut Valencia became a proud employee of The AVCO Lycoming Corporation where she worked until her retirement years later. It was at AVCO where she met and married the love of her life Philip Lopez (Chubb).

Valencia was a loving sister, a devoted wife, and a loyal friend. Valencia was not only loved, she was respected as well. She would “ALWAYS” give it to you straight. Tough love was her specialty. Valencia was a very wise woman, who will always be remembered for her wit, kind heart, great sense of humor and bluntness.

Valencia was proceeded in death by her husband Philip Lopez, father Berry Pettway Sr, mother Clarice Pettway, sister Wannetta Pettway-Leftwich, and her brother Gregory Pettway.
Valencia is survived by (2) brothers Mario Pettway Sr (Carolyn), Berry Pettway Jr.; (1) sister Rose Marie Pettway (David); (9) nephews RaRu (Breyana), Ejuan, Quan (Tamika), Mario Jr, Christopher, Berry Denard, Dai-Juan (Brandy), Stephon (Brittany) and Treyvon; (4) nieces TaMira (Charles), Charketa, Lisa & Natalie; (1) “Very” special cousin/brother Jimmy Foster; (4) best friends/sisters to whom she was very close to throughout her life Pamela Slocum, Andrae Holloway, Susan Porter (Bridgeport) Kay Rita Jackson (Detroit) and a host of other nephews, nieces, family members and friends. Valencia departed this world peacefully on August 7, 2018 at the age of 63. Her kind nature and fun loving personality will be missed by all who knew her.

Interment is private.
