Obituary for Mary L Howard

Mrs. Mary L. (Goolsby) Howard entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 30, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT. She was the daughter of the late Robert P. and Helen S. Goolsby. She attended grade school in Bristol, TN and was a graduate of Slater High School.

She was employed at Healthnet Insurance Company in Shelton, CT, until her illness prevented her from working. Mary was a faithful member of the Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where she was a member of the Sarah Fitzgerald Missionaries and the Mt. Olive Senior Center, which she loved to attend. She was also a member of the New England Conference Minister’s Wives and Spouses Fellowship, Former First Lady of Walters Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served faithfully with her husband for seventeen years. She was also the former First Lady of the Hartford District. She enjoyed traveling to various District and Conference events, where she served as the District Representative for World Methodist of Uniting Church Women. She was a former member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, where she sang in the Worship Choir. One of Mary’s favorite songs that she sang was, “It Is Well With My Soul.”

Prior to her extended illness, she enjoyed driving and looking at nature. She loved to travel with her family and friends. One of her favorite places to travel was Aruba. Mary was known for always dressing impeccably. And in her leisure time she loved to go shopping and get her nails done with her girlfriends.

She is survived by a sister, Linda (Minister Larry) Williams of Bristol, TN; niece, Deborah Williams of Laurel, MD; nephew, Minister Mike (Sharon) Williams; great nephew, Evan Williams of Springhill, TN; adopted son in Christ, Rev. G. Wesley (Shanetta) Dullivan of Bridgeport, CT; a devoted close friend, Mrs. Carolyn Humphrey of Waterbury, CT and several cousins and friends.

She is predeceased by her husband, Presiding Elder Timothy Howard.
